The YMCA Hurricane
Relief Effort
In the wake of two of
the most destructive natural disasters in our nation’s
history, the YMCA family expresses its deepest
sympathies to those who have lost loved ones and their
homes to the effects of the recent hurricanes. We
also join America in showing gratitude and support to
the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, National Guard
and other first-responders who admirably answered the
call to help those in need.
While dozens of YMCAs
throughout the affected areas have been damaged, the
mission and spirit of the YMCA lives on. YMCAs across
the country have opened their doors to receive hundreds
of those evacuated from
Louisiana,
Mississippi,
Alabama
and
Texas,
providing temporary shelter and sustenance in this most
challenging time. And even in the most ravaged areas,
the Y will remain as the bedrock of spirit, adapting to
meet the new needs and challenges its communities face.
You can support
rehabilitation plans to help affected YMCAs resume
their mission service to their communities. Please
send checks payable to YMCA of the
USA,
designated to “Hurricane Relief Fund” in the memo line,
to:

Through this
unimaginable loss emerges the opportunity to come
together as one YMCA movement worldwide—to rebuild the
lives of children, families and communities in spirit,
mind and body. With the strength and breadth of an
international family, grounded in one mission, hope
rises from hopelessness through caring, collaboration
and solidarity.
